Study Finds Dramatic Rise in Infected Ads and Websites

A recent study by security firm Dasient found a troubling and dramatic rise in the types of attacks greatly favored by cyber criminals, and those that have proven very effective in infecting the computers of casual Web browsers.

In their recent security update, Dasient found a number of trends from the end of 2010 that suggest this year won’t be much better.

For example:

Malicious advertising, or malvertising, rose significantly in the last three months. Malvertising is where crooks plant infected ads on legitimate web sites so they can infect the computers of visitors to those sites, or trick them with pop-up promotions for fake anti-virus software. Read more at
